Quality Consultant and Coach

My Outside-the-box Approach to Quality in Tech

I’m passionate about quality, but not in the way you know it

Quality at its best isn’t about testing everything.

Over-testing is a big time sink and often doesn’t result in the actual quality you’re looking for.

But it’s also not about move fast and break things.

Quality that’s left to the end means the bugs cost the business more. That’s when it can seem like the only solutions are to test more or to introduce heavy processes that slow things down.

Instead my approach is a strategic one that doesn’t rely on blanket approaches and creates unique solutions that meet your business’s needs (as well as your users’ needs and your teams’ needs). It’s about making intentional decisions that actually work to get the results you want, in alignment with your values and needs.

Liza’s Background

I spent my 17-year career (so far) in software quality, most recently as a QA manager at Dropbox, where I was responsible for managing the Quality Engineering team testing the core features of Dropbox across all platforms.

Before that, I was a QA engineer at a startup (Vocera), where I was responsible for testing all aspects of their proprietary hands-free communications device, without the support of a big team.

I’m neurodivergent and queer, and bring my passion for diversity and intersectionality to making that an advantage in tech.

In my spare time, I write, I run a book publishing house (Thinking Ink Press), and I work with my hands. You can learn more about my personal projects at LizaOlmsted.com.
